Personal Growth
This tab explores how I have grown as an honors student over time (2022-2026)
Introduction
I entered the honors college in August of 2022, fresh out of high school. I studied computer science for 1 year, until I decided to change up my plans. I explored the honors college opportunities and used my resources in order to discover where I wanted to aim my career. I ended up landing as an accounting major, where I have been for the last two years. With graduation coming in the spring, and a master's program coming in the summer, my path has never been more clear. My intended audience is employers and general business connections.
Original H200 "I am" Statement
I am determined to succeed. I know I’ll succeed is because I truly want it. I’m hardworking and I chase my goals until they’re complete. I have many close relationships, which provide support to keep me in the right mindset at all times.

Original H200 "I want to become" Statement
I want to become someone who chases their goals right from the start and doesn’t stop until they get it. My ‘I am’ statement established that I am someone who chases their goals, but when all of my goals have deadlines, I tend to wait until the last minute or until I’m told to do so. I want to become someone who gets it done right away. I don’t want to have to rely on the people around me to succeed. In my ‘I am’ statement I used the people around me for a reason that I succeed, but I want to become someone who can succeed all by themselves. I want to be able to figure out my life without needing anyone else's help. I have spent a lot of time lately thinking about how I should be more of an individual rather than guided by the people around me. I think a huge step for me was changing my major recently. No one told me to do it, but I decided that it was the best decision for me. Going into a new major with all new classes and all new people will help be address my goal of being more of an individual. Obviously I still want to meet new faces and friends, but they won’t guide my path for me. That’s my job. I used to always be scared of college because I knew I’d have to make my own decisions, but the days of my life being planned out for me are over. I want to become someone whose life is their own.

When I wrote my H200 statements, I had just recently changed major from computer science to pre business, and I was unsure of what career was ahead of me. The scenery of my college experience changed drastically. I worked as a manager at McAlister's Deli, where I fostered relationships with professionals and learned the basics of management. Through my classwork, I discovered that accounting was the right path for me.
I am: I am an Honors College student at Indiana University Indianapolis, pursuing a degree in accounting at the Kelley School of Business. I have gained hands-on accounting and audit experience through my internship with Myers and Stauffer LC, where I support government health programs. Through my Honors coursework, I have researched the history and practice of auditing and the legal foundations of accounting, while also engaging with my community through volunteer service. I am committed to ethical, accurate, and professional work.
I want to become: I aspire to become a standard bearer in the field of auditing. As I continue my undergraduate studies and professional internship, I am actively preparing to begin a graduate program later this year, followed by pursuit of the CPA credential. Each of these steps is essential to achieving my long-term goals and advancing within the accounting profession.
Updated Statements

Reflection
Through revisiting my earlier statements, I can clearly see how much I have grown throughout my college journey. When I wrote my original statements, there was significant uncertainty surrounding my professional direction, and I focused heavily on my personal life as I worked to determine how I wanted to build my career. While my friends and family have always remained the foundation of who I am, discovering my professional goals has allowed me to move forward with confidence, knowing I have a strong support system behind me.
Over these four years, I have achieved many accomplishments of which I am proud. I continued managing McAlister’s for several years, strengthening my leadership abilities, management skills, and business professionalism. I maintained a high GPA throughout my coursework while completing an honors contract every semester. I also identified my long-term career path and accepted my first internship, where I am gaining hands-on auditing experience. Most recently, I was admitted into the MS in Accounting program at IU Indianapolis, which I will begin in May.
As I approach the completion of my undergraduate studies, I am more confident, well-rounded, and prepared to make a meaningful impact in my professional career.
Journey Map:
Introduction
When I began my honors experience in August of 2022, I was challenged with thinking about the path that brought me to where I was in my academic journey. One of the ways I did this was with a journey map in H200 class. This assignment helped me identify challenges I faced and opportunities I chased, as well as addressing my most recent change. This map identifies who I was when I entered the honors college: a driven student who still had to figure out which direction to aim his education. By coming back to this journey map, I see the ways that I have grown in the last four years.

Reflection
When I entered the Honors College, I was beginning a period filled with new experiences, including starting college and taking on a new role at work. I focused on self-discovery and approached that journey with ambition, knowing I needed to carefully consider how to direct my education and future career. Along the way, I was fortunate to establish new goals, some of which I have already achieved, others I will accomplish soon, and some that remain long-term aspirations. Today, my path feels clear, and my focus is on continuing to move forward with purpose. I am especially proud of two recent milestones: securing my first internship and being admitted to graduate school. I am gaining valuable experience in my current position and am excited to begin the Master of Science in Accounting program.
